Following the County Council Cabinet decision, not to award Stage 2 of the design and build contract, the County Council, with the support of Homes England, the government’s housing agency, and the City Council, the County Council have begun the process of looking for a contractor to undertake the construction of the Carlisle Southern Link Road.
While the County Council look for a new contractor; the land secured for the project is being cleared of any obstructions, archaeological works is underway and a major package of utility diversion works is also taking place.
The County Council, City Council and Government remain committed to finding a way to deliver the project in a challenging economy recognising that this multi-million-pound scheme is vital for the growth of Carlisle and delivering the St Cuthbert’s Garden Village project.
The revised application made to the Housing Infrastructure fund by Cumbria County Council and Carlisle City Council is currently being considered by Homes England.
